Languages Competencies for SRSP Students

SRSP emphasizes language competencies for all our school students in the primary school. To enhance their mastery in languages, the school creates opportunities for their learning of languages in formal teaching and out-of-the classroom communication. Our aim is to create a conducive and safe environment for the learning and the use of the major languages. 

Bahasa Melayu is the National Language and all students without exception must have a mastery of the language.

English and Mandarin are languages of communication and commerce. There is tremendous economic value to the mastery of these two languages. The school is committed to enhance the learning of English and Mandarin in many formal and informal creative situations for students to learn the languages with joy.

Hence SRSP strives to encourage TRILINGUALISM and will undertake any initiative from within and without to achieve this aspiration within the six-year education at SRSP.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

At SRSP, we deliver the Malaysian National Curriculum for primary students coming from a truly diverse background. Students are being guided to go through the stipulated curriculum leading to Year 6 level. By then, students are fully equipped to undertake any course of study at the national and international level.

The result is a balanced, holistic curriculum that promotes and encourages international mindedness, respect, effective communication, creative thinking, active and independent learning. It aims to prepare students for the challenges of life in the 21st century.

Functional skills are those core elements of English, Mathematics, and ICT that provide individuals with the skills and abilities they need to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life.

Functional skills are embedded across the curriculum and are evident in the Scheme of Work. It is the school’s policy that core elements of English, Mathematics and ICT are appropriately applied in all curriculum stages and across all subjects.

The following is the allocation of time for each subject. Bahasa Cina is included as an additional subject and is given due emphasis to fulfill our trilingual enhancement.

课后课程 (ASP)

The After School Programme (ASP) is an optional programme for students of SRSP, which caters for those who need to stay back after school ends every day.

课后课程 (ASP) 是 SRSP学生的可选课程,专门为那些每天放学后需要留下的学生提供服务。

Duration of the ASP:

Monday to Friday 1:15 – 5:00 p.m.

Activities during the ASP is as follow: 

1:15 – 1:45 p.m.Lunch (Students need to prepare their own lunch or pre-order from the canteen)
1:45 – 3:00 p.m.Completion of homework
3:00 – 3:15 p.m.Break (Student may bring their own snacks)
3:15 – 4:20 p.m.Completion of homeworkTutorial session for all subjects
4:20 – 4:55 p.m.Enrichment activities after student have completed their work
4:55-5:00 p.m.Tidying up of classroom and any materials used.Get ready to go to the waiting area.
FAQ
  1. Will students be retained at any level?
    Students will be guided for mastery at each level. Retention only if the students missed too many lessons and they are far off-mark.
  2. What are the qualifications of teachers?
    Teachers are a mixture of experienced and qualified teachers.
  3. Are holidays the same as the government schools?
    Yes.
  4. When are CCA’s conducted?
    Within school hours on Tuesdays and Fridays. School is dismissed at 1:30 p.m. on these days.
  5. Is food catered for during recess?
    Students can either subscribe to the school’s meal plan monthly or buy food from the canteen.
  6. Do you provide after-school care?
    After School Programme (ASP) is provided at additional charges.
  7. Do students have to do homework?
    Homework is supplementary and hence regulated.
  8. What is the medium of instruction?
    Malay and English Languages. The Mandarin Language is only used in Chinese lessons.
  9. What textbooks are you using?
    Students purchase approved textbooks by MOE. Texts from Singapore and UK textbooks will be introduced at appropriate stages.
  10. Do students need further tuition?
    Generally, students’ mastery is catered for. Tuition is needed only in special cases.
  11. Do you provide transport?
    We plan to do so if there is a demand but chargeable.
  12. Are there school trips and off-site activities?
    School trips are organized for the purpose of teaching and learning.
  13. Are weekends free?
    Saturdays and Sundays are free.
  14. What are the safety precautions in school?
    Parents are to fetch children in the school compound. Security is provided by security guards. CCTV has been installed for additional security.
  15. Is there an entrance examination for students?
    Certain students will be assessed before they are given the offer.
  16. Will there be disciplinary actions against wrongdoers?
    Yes, but there are different forms to encourage good behavior.

Job Requirements:

  • Possess at least an SPM/”O” Level, Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Education/Teaching/Training, or equivalent. Malaysian fresh graduates who possess good academic credentials are encouraged to apply.
  • Committed, passionate in teaching, team player, and self-motivated
  • Required language(s): English, Chinese, Malay
  • At least 1 year of working experience in the related field is required
  • Must be willing to work in Batu Pahat.

About Us

Sekolah Rendah Seri Presbyterian is a private school set up to conduct the National Curriculum for Year 1  up to Year 6. We use the International approach to deliver the Malaysian Curriculum which gives our students the flexibility of entering all types of secondary schools in Malaysia as well as overseas. We are committed to train our students to master 3 languages in the course of their study at Sekolah Rendah Seri Presbyterian namely BM, English and Mandarin. We do this by creating the conducive environment for usage of the three languages on a daily basis both inside and outside the  classroom. We are looking for teachers with passion to teach young hearts so that they enjoy learning and become active and independent learners.

Co-Curricular Activities

Co-curricular activities (CCAs), previously known as Extracurricular Activities (ECA) are non-academic activities that all students must participate in. It’s a a means to enhance social interaction, leadership, healthy recreation, self-discipline and self-confidence.

Through CCAs, students in their early teens are often given actual public responsibilities. Red Cross and Boy’s Bridgade members, for example, are often required to render first aid at public events. Most uniformed groups require precision, management and organisational skills, providing training to prepare students for the outside world.

Implementation

  • Some CCA’s impose a coaching fee based on type of CCA
  • Students choose at least one CCA according to the available CCA activities every term
  • CCA’s are conducted on school days for one hour after school ends at 2.20pm
